Rafeena Rashid & Jelena Urosevic

Rafeena is attuned to the needs of immigrants as she immigrated to Canada from Guyana when she was three years old. When her family moved to Canada, the immigration laws were not as complex as they are today. Over the last couple of decades, Rafeena saw the difficulties experienced by others who desire to come to Canada through her employment at the Immigration and Refugee Board, where she worked as a Refugee Protection Officer.  And later, after becoming a lawyer, at the Department of Justice, Immigration Law Division.  During her six plus years at the Department of Justice, Rafeena handled a variety of immigration, refugee and citizenship cases in the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada on behalf of the Ministers of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (CIC) and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (CBSA). In 2016, Rafeena left her position at the Department of Justice to co-found Rashid Urosevic LLP - a boutique law firm specializing in immigration and citizenship matters.  In her free time, Rafeena enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, exercising and photography.  Rafeena can be reached at: info@rulaw.ca.
Jelena immigrated to Canada from the former Yugoslavia in 1994. She developed an interest in immigration law and policy at an early age as she observed her mother's experiences as a skilled worker and the experiences of many other immigrants and refugees from her country. Jelena has been a practicing lawyer in Ontario, Canada since 2008. For over six years, she worked at the Immigration Law Division at the Department of Justice Canada and represented the Government of Canada in hundreds of immigration, refugee and citizenship cases. She left her position as a government lawyer in 2016 to co-found Rashid Urosevic LLP, a law firm specializing in Canadian immigration, citizenship and refugee law. Jelena has always been enthusiastic about helping individuals understand the Canadian immigration system and their options for moving to Canada. In her free time, Jelena enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, travelling and exercising. In addition to English, Jelena is fluent in Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian. She can be reached at: info@rulaw.ca.
